Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, worn motor carbon brushes (on brushed motors), seized drum bearings, failed drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance.
Steps:
- Check belt: Remove the rear panel and inspect the drive belt between the motor and drum pulley. If broken or off, replace or refit.
- Spin drum by hand: Rotate the drum from the front. It should turn smoothly. Grinding or stiffness indicates bearing issues.
- Inspect motor brushes: On brushed motors, remove the motor and check carbon brushes. If they are shorter than about 1 cm, replace both brushes with Ariston-compatible parts.
- Test motor: Measure winding resistance and check for shorts to earth. Replace the motor if defective.
Tip: After fitting a new belt, ensure correct tension and alignment on the pulleys.
