Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Foreign object lodged in pump impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Avanti combo and keep towels or a shallow pan ready for water spillage.
- Inspect the drain hose: Check the rear drain hose for kinks, crushing, or being pushed too far into the standpipe (which can cause siphoning). Straighten or reposition as needed.
- Clean the pump filter (if accessible): On many Avanti combos, the drain pump is accessed from the front lower panel or rear service panel. Remove the panel, place a pan under the pump, and slowly unscrew the pump clean-out cap (if present) to let water drain. Remove lint, coins, and debris from the filter and impeller area.
- Check for foreign objects: Shine a flashlight into the pump housing and gently rotate the impeller with a finger or non-metal tool. It should turn freely. Remove any obstructions.
- Test a drain cycle: Reassemble, plug in the unit, and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump running. If you hear humming but no water movement, the pump may be jammed or failing.
- When to replace the pump: If the pump is silent, only hums, or trips the breaker, the drain pump motor is likely defective and should be replaced with an OEM Avanti-compatible drain pump.
