Washer-dryer will not start; door symbol flashes and cycle will not begin

Safety first: Unplug the Balay washer-dryer combo from the mains and close the water taps before any work. Do not bypass the door lock for testing with the machine powered.

Step-by-step checks:

• Inspect the door and latch: Open and close the door firmly. Check that the metal/plastic latch hook on the door is not cracked, bent, or loose. If damaged, replace the door latch hook.
• Check the door lock (interlock): Remove the front door seal clamp and gently pull back the bellows to access the door lock on the cabinet. Verify that the connector is fully seated and that no pins are burnt or corroded.
• Continuity test: With the lock removed and the appliance unplugged, use a multimeter to test the door lock terminals for continuity when the lock is engaged (refer to Balay service diagram for pinout). If open circuit in all positions, replace the door lock assembly.
• Wiring inspection: Trace the harness from the door lock to the main control module (usually at the rear or base). Look for pinched, broken, or burnt wires. Repair or replace damaged wiring and secure with cable ties.
• Control reset: After reassembly, plug in the machine, close the door firmly, and try a short cycle. If E01 persists despite a known-good lock and wiring, the main control module may be defective and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
