Possible Causes

Blocked or detached pressure sensor hose, Faulty pressure switch (water level sensor), Stuck water inlet valve, Main control module misreading level

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance and close the water tap immediately if overfilling is observed.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Inspect pressure hose: Remove the top cover. Locate the pressure switch / water level sensor and its thin hose leading to the tub. Ensure the hose is firmly attached at both ends and not cracked, kinked, or blocked. Blow gently through the hose (disconnected) to clear soap residue.
  • Check the pressure switch: With the machine unplugged, disconnect the sensor connector and inspect for corrosion. Use a multimeter to test switch contacts while applying gentle air pressure to the sensor (refer to Balay service data for expected switching points). Replace if readings are inconsistent.
  • Test inlet valve for sticking: With water tap off and machine unplugged, remove the inlet hose and check for water flow from the valve. Any continuous flow with no power indicates a mechanically stuck valve; replace the water inlet valve assembly.
  • Control reset: After repairs, plug in, open the tap, and run a short rinse cycle. Monitor fill level. If E04 recurs with a new sensor and valve, the main control module may require replacement by a professional.
