Possible Causes

Failed heating element (heater), Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt wiring at heater terminals, Defective main control module relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance and ensure the drum is cool before working on the heater.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Access the heater: On most Balay washer-dryer combos, the heating element is mounted at the rear of the tub. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
  • Visual inspection: Check for burnt connectors, melted insulation, or signs of leakage around the heater gasket.
  • Test heater resistance: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals with a multimeter. Typical values are 20–30 Ω (check Balay specs). Infinite resistance indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
  • Test NTC sensor: Measure resistance of the NTC at room temperature; it should be within the range specified by Balay (often 4–20 kΩ). If reading is open, shorted, or does not change when warmed slightly, replace the NTC temperature sensor.
  • Check wiring and control: Inspect the harness from the heater to the main control module for damage. If heater and NTC are good, the heater relay on the control board may be faulty and should be serviced or replaced by a technician.
