Possible Causes
Partially blocked drain pump filter, Obstruction in sump hose or drain hose, Weak or failing drain pump, Incorrect drain hose installation height
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Prepare towels and a shallow tray for water spillage.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean pump filter: Open the lower service flap, unscrew the filter slowly, and remove debris. Ensure the filter O-ring is clean and seats properly when refitted.
- Check sump hose: From the front or bottom, inspect the large hose from the tub to the pump for blockages (socks, lint). Remove the hose and clean thoroughly.
- Inspect drain hose and installation: Ensure the external drain hose is not kinked and that its height complies with Balay installation instructions. A hose that is too high or too low can affect drainage.
- Test pump operation: During a drain program (with caution and proper insulation), listen for pump noise. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent, replace the drain pump.
