Possible Causes
Seized drum bearings, Foreign object jammed between drum and tub, Shorted motor windings, Overloaded drum
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before spinning the drum by hand or accessing internal parts.
- Step 1 – Check for mechanical obstruction: Rotate the drum by hand. If it is very stiff, noisy, or grinds, inspect for foreign objects (e.g., bra wires) caught between drum and tub via the heater opening or sump hose.
- Step 2 – Inspect bearings: Listen for rumbling or grinding from the rear bearing area. Severe bearing failure can overload the motor and trigger H3; bearing replacement is a major repair.
- Step 3 – Reduce load: Ensure the drum is not overloaded. Remove some items and retry.
- Step 4 – Test motor: If the drum turns freely, test motor windings and tachometer as in E07/E08. Replace the motor if windings are shorted.
