Possible Causes
Defective door lock assembly, Faulty door lock solenoid or bi-metal, Wiring issue between door lock and main control board, Main control board not sending unlock signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Do not force the door open with tools as this can damage the door and seal.
- Wait for safety delay: After the cycle ends, wait at least 2–5 minutes. Some Brandt models have a delay before unlocking.
- Check for water in drum: If water remains, the machine may keep the door locked. Run a drain-only or spin cycle if possible. If not, manually drain via the drain filter at the bottom front.
- Use emergency release: Many Brandt combos have a manual door release near the drain filter or behind the lower kick panel (often a pull cord). Pull gently to unlock the door.
- Inspect door lock: Once the door is open and power is off, access the door lock behind the front panel or door seal. Check for burnt smell, cracks, or loose connectors. Replace the door lock assembly if damaged or if continuity tests fail.
- Check wiring and board: Inspect the harness to the control board. If all hardware is good, the main control board may be faulty and require replacement by a technician.
