Possible Causes
Worn or broken drive belt, Defective drum motor, Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Wiring issue between motor and main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing rear or side panels. Moving parts can cause injury.
- Check drum movement: With power off, rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. If it is very stiff or grinding, there may be a bearing or mechanical issue rather than an electrical one.
- Inspect drive belt: Remove the rear panel to access the drum pulley and motor. Check if the belt is off, frayed, or broken. Refit or replace the belt if necessary, ensuring correct alignment on both pulleys.
- Examine motor connectors: Verify that the motor plug is fully seated and that no pins are burnt or corroded. Reseat the connector.
- Test motor windings and tachometer: Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the motor windings and the tachometer sensor (if accessible). Compare with Brandt service specifications; replace the motor if readings are out of range or if the tachometer is open.
- Inspect wiring harness: Follow the harness from the motor to the main control board. Repair any damaged wires.
- Control board diagnosis: If motor, belt, and wiring are good, the motor control circuit on the main board may be defective. Board replacement is usually required.
