Possible Causes
Failed heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt wiring at heater terminals, Defective main control board heater relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Heating components can retain heat; allow time to cool before touching.
- Run a hot cycle test: Start a high-temperature wash and check after 15–20 minutes if the door glass feels warm. If not, the heater circuit is likely faulty.
- Access heater: On many Brandt combos, the heater is located at the rear bottom of the tub. Remove the rear panel to access the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
- Test heating element: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the terminals. A typical value is 20–30 Ω (check Brandt specs). Infinite resistance indicates a failed element; replace the heating element.
- Check NTC sensor: Measure resistance of the NTC at room temperature; it should be within the range specified by Brandt (often 20–30 kΩ). If open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the NTC sensor.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Look for signs of overheating, burning, or loose connections at the heater and NTC. Repair or replace damaged connectors.
- Control board relay: If heater and NTC are good, the heater relay on the main control board may be defective. Board repair or replacement is required and is best handled by a technician.
