Possible Causes
Worn shock absorbers, Broken suspension springs, Loose drum counterweights, Damaged drum spider (support arm)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Do not continue to use the machine if it is violently shaking; this can cause further damage.
- Check load balance: First ensure the noise is not simply due to a very unbalanced load. Redistribute laundry and try again.
- Inspect shocks and springs: Remove the top and rear panels. Check the shock absorbers at the bottom for oil leakage or looseness. Replace in pairs if worn. Inspect suspension springs at the top for stretching or breakage and replace if needed.
- Check counterweights: Locate concrete or cast-iron weights on the tub. Ensure all bolts are tight. Tighten any loose bolts with appropriate tools.
- Assess drum spider: If the drum wobbles excessively by hand or you hear metallic scraping, the internal drum spider may be cracked. This usually requires drum assembly replacement by a technician.
