Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Blocked drain hose, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Water may spill when opening the pump filter—have towels and a shallow pan ready.
Steps:
- Access pump filter: On most Café combo models, the drain pump filter is behind a lower front access panel. Remove the panel screws or push the clips to open.
- Drain residual water: Use the emergency drain hose (if equipped) or slowly loosen the pump filter cap to let water drain into a pan.
- Clean the filter: Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris from the filter and pump cavity. Spin the pump impeller with your finger; it should move freely.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the rear drain hose for kinks, clogs, or a frozen section (in cold climates). Ensure the standpipe height meets Café installation specs.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the filter and panel, restore power, and run a drain/spin cycle.
When to call a technician: If the pump hums but does not move water, or if code 4 returns after cleaning, the drain pump motor may need replacement.
