Drum does not rotate or rotates only briefly; humming noise from motor area; E08 displayed.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. The drum and motor can move unexpectedly; keep hands clear when testing.
Step-by-step checks:
- Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly without grinding or seizing. If stiff, investigate bearings or foreign objects before focusing on the motor.
- Access the motor: Remove the rear panel and drive belt. Inspect the motor and wiring harness for burn marks or loose connectors.
- Inspect and replace brushes (if fitted): On brushed motors, remove the brush holders and check brush length. If brushes are worn below ~1 cm or uneven, replace both with compatible Candy motor brushes.
- Test tachometer: At the motor connector, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals (typically 100–200 Ω). An open circuit indicates a faulty tacho coil.
- Check windings: Measure resistance of the armature and field windings according to service data. Very low or infinite readings indicate a defective motor.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the belt and rear panel. Run a spin cycle to confirm normal rotation.
When to call a technician: If the motor tests good but E08 remains, the main PCB motor triac or drive circuit is likely faulty and should be replaced by a professional.
