Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose tachometer connector at motor, Damaged motor harness, Defective motor control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the motor area. Avoid rotating the drum by hand while power is connected.
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel to expose the drive motor mounted under the tub.
- Inspect tachometer connector: On the back of the motor, locate the small tachometer sensor and its connector. Ensure it is fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Check wiring harness: Follow the harness from the motor to the main control board. Look for pinched, cut, or burnt wires. Repair or replace as needed.
- Test tachometer (advanced): Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals. Compare to service specs. An open or shorted sensor must be replaced (often requires replacing the motor assembly on some Costway models).
- Spin test: With the belt removed and power disconnected, spin the motor shaft by hand and verify the tachometer produces a small AC voltage (if specified by the manual).
- If E13 remains: Replace the motor (with integrated tachometer) or the main control board if the motor tests good.
