Possible Causes

Loose or broken drive belt, Faulty drive motor, Defective motor control circuit on main PCB, Overloaded drum causing motor stall

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing any panels. Do not bypass safety interlocks.

  • Reduce load: Remove some items if the drum is heavily packed. Overloading can trigger E3. Run a test with a few towels only.
  • Check for drum obstruction: Spin the drum by hand. It should rotate smoothly without scraping or binding. If it is hard to turn, inspect for foreign objects between drum and tub.
  • Inspect drive belt: Remove the rear panel. Verify the belt is on both the motor pulley and drum pulley. If the belt is loose, frayed, or broken, replace it with the correct Danby belt.
  • Check motor connections: Inspect the motor wiring harness and connector at the motor and main control board. Reseat any loose plugs and look for burnt pins.
  • Test motor (advanced): Using a multimeter, check motor windings for continuity. An open or shorted winding indicates a failed motor.
  • Control board: If belt and motor test good but E3 persists, the motor drive circuit on the main PCB may be defective. Replacement of the main control board is typically required and may be best handled by a technician.
