Possible Causes
Failed heating element (tub heater), Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Wiring fault between heater/NTC and control board, Defective main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before working near the heater.
- 1. Access the heater: On most De Dietrich washer-dryer combos, the heater is mounted in the lower rear of the tub. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
- 2. Test the heater element: Disconnect the heater wires. Measure resistance across the heater terminals with a multimeter. Typical values are 20–30 Ω (check service data). An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a faulty heater that must be replaced.
- 3. Check for earth leakage: Measure resistance between each heater terminal and the metal chassis. Any low resistance (below several MΩ) suggests insulation breakdown; replace the heater.
- 4. Test NTC sensor: Disconnect the NTC connector and measure its resistance at room temperature (often 20–30 kΩ). Warm it gently in your hand; resistance should decrease smoothly. If readings are erratic or open, replace the NTC sensor.
- 5. Inspect wiring and relay: Check the harness from heater and NTC to the main PCB for burnt connectors or broken wires. If all components test good, the heater relay on the control board may be defective, requiring PCB repair or replacement.
Warning: Never bypass safety thermostats or sensors; this can cause overheating and fire risk.
