Possible Causes
Seized drum bearings or foreign object between tub and drum, Jammed motor, Faulty motor capacitor (on some models), Overloaded drum causing stall
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before inspection.
- 1. Check drum movement: Open the door and rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with minimal resistance. Grinding, scraping, or stiffness suggests bearing or obstruction issues.
- 2. Look for obstructions: Shine a torch through the drum holes to see if a bra wire or other object is trapped between drum and tub. If visible, it may be retrievable through the heater opening or sump hose connection.
- 3. Inspect motor and belt: Remove the rear panel. Check that the belt is correctly seated and not jammed. Remove the belt and spin the motor pulley by hand; it should turn freely. If seized, replace the motor.
- 4. Motor capacitor (if fitted): Some De Dietrich combos use a start/run capacitor. Locate it near the motor, discharge it safely, then test capacitance with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance or bulging.
- 5. Load issues: If the fault only occurs with very heavy loads (e.g., large duvets), reduce the load size and redistribute items. Persistent E08 with normal loads points to mechanical or electrical faults that must be corrected.
Note: Bearing replacement is complex and may require full tub removal; consider professional service for that operation.
