Possible Causes
Failed dryer heating element, Open thermal fuse or safety thermostat on dryer circuit, Blocked air duct or lint build-up causing overheat, Wiring fault to dryer heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance. Dryer components can remain hot after use; allow to cool.
- 1. Clean lint and airflow paths: Remove the top cover and rear panel as needed to access the dryer air duct. Vacuum lint from the fan housing, ducts, and condenser (if fitted). Blocked airflow can trip safety thermostats.
- 2. Test dryer heater: Locate the dryer heating element assembly (often in a metal duct). Disconnect its connectors and measure resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
- 3. Check thermal fuses/thermostats: In series with the heater are one or more thermostats or thermal fuses. Test each for continuity. Any open device must be replaced with the exact temperature rating specified by De Dietrich.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Examine the harness from the heater and thermostats to the control board for heat damage or loose terminals. Repair or replace as necessary.
- 5. Resettable thermostat: Some models have a manual-reset thermostat with a small button. If present, press gently to reset after the unit has cooled and after cleaning airflow paths.
Warning: Do not bypass thermal fuses or thermostats; they are critical safety devices.
