Washer-dryer combo does not heat water; cycles run cold and E5 appears on some models.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. Heating components can retain residual voltage and get very hot.
- Confirm symptom: Run a hot wash cycle and check if the door glass and drum remain cold after 15–20 minutes.
- Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel to locate the heater terminals at the bottom of the outer tub (on most Equator combos).
- Check wiring: Inspect the heater connectors for signs of burning, melting, or loose connections. Reseat any loose connectors.
- Test heater element: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance across the heater terminals. A typical reading is 20–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
- Check NTC sensor: Locate the temperature sensor near the heater. Measure its resistance at room temperature and compare with Equator service specs (commonly 5–20 kΩ). A short or open reading indicates a bad sensor.
If heater and sensor test good but E5 persists, the main control board may not be energizing the heater circuit and should be evaluated by a technician.
