Possible Causes

Failed wash heater element in Equator combo, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burned heater wiring, Defective main control board heater relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Heating components can retain residual voltage and get very hot.

  • Confirm symptom: Run a hot wash cycle and check if the door glass and drum remain cold after 15–20 minutes.
  • Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel to locate the heater terminals at the bottom of the outer tub (on most Equator combos).
  • Check wiring: Inspect the heater connectors for signs of burning, melting, or loose connections. Reseat any loose connectors.
  • Test heater element: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance across the heater terminals. A typical reading is 20–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed heater that must be replaced.
  • Check NTC sensor: Locate the temperature sensor near the heater. Measure its resistance at room temperature and compare with Equator service specs (commonly 5–20 kΩ). A short or open reading indicates a bad sensor.

If heater and sensor test good but E5 persists, the main control board may not be energizing the heater circuit and should be evaluated by a technician.
