Possible Causes
Shorted motor windings, Jammed drum or foreign object between drum and tub, Shorted motor control triac or inverter on PCB, Damaged motor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance immediately. Do not repeatedly reset and run if E09 appears, as this may damage the control board further.
- Step 1 – Check drum for jams: Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very stiff or stuck, inspect the door seal area with a torch for trapped items (e.g., bra wires). If necessary, remove the heater to look for foreign objects between drum and tub.
- Step 2 – Inspect motor and wiring: Remove the rear panel. Check the motor for burnt smell or visible damage. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing or shorts to the chassis.
- Step 3 – Electrical tests: With a multimeter, measure resistance of the motor windings. Very low resistance or a short to ground indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Assess control PCB: If the motor tests good but E09 persists, the motor drive components on the Essentials control PCB may be shorted. This typically requires PCB repair or replacement by a qualified technician.
- Step 5 – Do not bypass protections: Never bypass fuses or safety devices to clear E09; this can create a fire risk.
