Washer-dryer trips the household circuit breaker or RCD during operation

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Unplug the appliance and keep it disconnected until the fault is found.

• Step 1 – Visual inspection: Check for obvious water leaks around the machine and inside the base. Fix leaks before further testing.
• Step 2 – Isolate components: With the appliance unplugged, disconnect the tub heater and try running a cold wash. If the breaker no longer trips, the heater is likely faulty.
• Step 3 – Test heaters: Use a multimeter to check resistance from each heater terminal to earth (chassis). Any measurable leakage indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
• Step 4 – Check mains filter: Inspect the mains filter for burning or cracking. Replace if damaged.
• Step 5 – If unsure: Because of shock and fire risk, have a qualified electrician or appliance technician complete the diagnosis and repair.
