Possible Causes
Faulty Fisher & Paykel motor tachometer sensor, Loose tachometer connector, Damaged motor magnet ring, Motor control board fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before working near the motor.
- Check load and balance: Ensure the drum is not overloaded and that items are evenly distributed. An unbalanced load can mimic speed faults.
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel to expose the motor. Inspect the wiring harness and tachometer connector at the rear of the motor.
- Inspect tachometer: On many Fisher & Paykel motors, the tachometer is a small coil or sensor mounted at the motor shaft end. Check for physical damage or dislodged magnets.
- Test tachometer (advanced): With a multimeter, measure resistance across the tachometer coil; compare with service specs. An open circuit indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace motor or tachometer: If the tachometer is not separately replaceable, the entire motor assembly must be replaced. If it is modular, swap the tachometer sensor with a genuine Fisher & Paykel part.
