Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Faulty Fisher & Paykel drain pump, Foreign object in pump impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and be prepared for water spillage when opening any pump access.
- Check drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe (which can cause siphoning). The hose end should be secured at the recommended height per the Fisher & Paykel installation guide.
- Inspect pump filter (if accessible): Many Fisher & Paykel combo units have a service panel at the front or bottom. Open it, place a shallow tray and towels, then slowly unscrew the pump filter cap to let water drain. Remove lint, coins, buttons, or debris from the filter and cavity.
- Check for impeller obstruction: With the filter removed, gently feel the pump impeller. It should turn freely with slight resistance. Remove any foreign objects.
- Run a drain/spin test: Refit the filter, close the panel, reconnect power, and run a drain or spin-only cycle. If E2 returns and you hear no pump noise, the pump motor may have failed.
- Pump replacement (advanced): Disconnect power and water, tilt the machine back or remove rear/bottom panel to access the Fisher & Paykel drain pump. Disconnect wiring, hose clamps, and mounting screws. Install the new pump in the same orientation, reconnect hoses and wiring, and test for leaks.
