Possible Causes
Excessively unbalanced load, Faulty Fisher & Paykel motor control module, Worn or loose drive belt (belt-driven models), Motor tachometer feedback issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
- Redistribute the load: Open the door once the machine unlocks. Check if heavy items (e.g., towels, blankets) are bunched on one side. Redistribute or remove some items and run a spin-only cycle.
- Check machine leveling: Ensure the combo is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust the front leveling feet so the cabinet does not rock when pushed diagonally.
- Inspect drive belt (if applicable): Unplug the unit, remove the rear panel. Check the Fisher & Paykel drive belt for fraying, glazing, or slack. If loose or damaged, replace the belt.
- Check drum movement: Spin the drum by hand. It should rotate smoothly without grinding or binding. Stiff movement may indicate bearing or motor issues.
- Advanced diagnostics: If the belt and load are fine but E3 persists, the motor control module or motor tachometer sensor may be faulty. These require electrical testing with a multimeter and are best handled by a qualified technician.
