Possible Causes
Failed Fisher & Paykel wash heater element, Open high-limit thermostat or NTC sensor, Wiring fault between heater and control, Faulty main control board heater relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and ensure the drum is cool before working near the heater.
- Confirm symptom: Run a hot wash and check after 10–15 minutes if the door glass and drum feel warm. If not, heating is not occurring.
- Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel (or front lower panel depending on model) to locate the Fisher & Paykel wash heater at the base of the tub.
- Check wiring: Inspect heater wiring connectors for burning, looseness, or corrosion. Reseat any loose connectors.
- Test heater (advanced): With a multimeter set to ohms and the appliance unplugged, disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals. A typical value is 20–40 Ω; infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
- Replace heater if open: Loosen the central nut on the heater clamp, gently push the bolt inward to release the seal, and pull the heater out. Clean the mounting area, insert the new Fisher & Paykel heater, ensure the seal sits evenly, tighten the nut, reconnect wiring, and test for leaks.
- Sensor/thermostat: If the heater tests good, the NTC temperature sensor or high-limit thermostat on the heater bracket may be faulty and should be tested/replaced.
