Possible Causes
Failed Fisher & Paykel drive motor, Faulty motor control module (inverter), Loose or damaged motor wiring harness, Overloaded drum causing motor protection trip
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the motor or control electronics.
- Reduce load: Remove some items from the drum and attempt a spin-only cycle. Overloading can cause the motor to stall and trigger an error.
- Listen for motor noise: If you hear a humming or clicking but no drum movement, the motor may be jammed or the belt (if fitted) may be broken.
- Inspect motor and belt: Remove the rear panel. Check the Fisher & Paykel drive belt (if belt-driven) and ensure it is intact and properly tensioned. Inspect the motor connector for secure fit and no burn marks.
- Check drum rotation: Turn the drum by hand. If it is very stiff or grinding, there may be a bearing or foreign object issue rather than a motor fault.
- Advanced testing: Use a multimeter to test motor windings for continuity and insulation resistance (for qualified persons only). If the motor is open or shorted, replace it. If the motor tests good, the motor control module/inverter may be defective and should be replaced with the correct Fisher & Paykel part.
