Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Faulty motor control board (if separate), Shorted motor windings, Damaged motor harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the rear panel or motor area.
- Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. Grinding or binding may indicate mechanical issues (bearing, foreign object) rather than electrical.
- Inspect motor harness: Remove the rear panel, locate the drive motor at the bottom rear, and inspect the wiring harness and connector for damage or looseness.
- Check for burned smell: A strong electrical odor near the motor or control board suggests component failure.
- Test motor windings: With a multimeter, measure resistance across motor terminals according to Frigidaire specs. Open or shorted readings indicate a bad motor.
- Replace failed component: Replace the drive motor if windings are defective. If the motor tests good but E51 persists, replace the motor control board or main control (depending on model design).
