Possible Causes
Restricted exhaust vent, Failed cycling thermostat stuck closed, Shorted heater relay on control board, Lint buildup in heater housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit immediately if you smell burning or see excessive heat. Do not continue running until the issue is resolved.
- Inspect and clean venting: Disconnect the exhaust hose and clean it thoroughly. Check the wall vent and exterior hood for obstructions.
- Clean internal lint: Remove rear panel and vacuum lint from the heater housing, blower, and ducts.
- Test thermostats: Use a meter to verify the cycling thermostat and high-limit thermostat open and close properly (refer to Frigidaire specs). Replace any that are stuck closed.
- Check control board: If the heater stays on continuously even when thermostats are good, the heater relay on the main control may be stuck and the board should be replaced.
