Possible Causes
Worn carbon brushes on motor (if fitted), Faulty drive motor, Defective motor tachometer sensor, Failed motor control circuit on power module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Drum and motor components can start unexpectedly if power is present.
- 1. Check for mechanical obstruction: Try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly. Grinding or seizure suggests a bearing or foreign object issue rather than an electrical fault.
- 2. Access the motor: Remove the rear panel and drive belt. Inspect the motor and wiring harness for damage or loose connectors.
- 3. Inspect carbon brushes (if applicable): On universal motors, remove the brush holders and check brush length. If brushes are worn to a few millimeters or uneven, replace them as a set.
- 4. Test tachometer sensor: On the motor shaft, locate the tachometer coil. Measure its resistance; an open circuit indicates failure. Ensure the connector is firmly seated.
- 5. Check motor windings: Measure resistance across motor terminals according to service data. Very high or zero readings indicate a defective motor.
- 6. If motor assembly is good: The motor control section of the power module may be faulty. Replacement of the module should be carried out by a qualified technician due to high-voltage circuitry.
