Possible Causes
Shorted wash heater element to ground, Shorted dryer heater element, Internal short in power module, Damaged wiring harness contacting chassis
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the circuit breaker and unplug the appliance. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker.
- 1. Visual inspection: Remove the rear panel and inspect the wash heater, dryer heater housing, and wiring for burn marks, melted insulation, or signs of arcing.
- 2. Insulation test on heaters: With a multimeter, check resistance between each heater terminal and the metal chassis. Any low resistance (near 0 Ω) indicates a short to ground; the heater must be replaced.
- 3. Check wiring harness routing: Ensure no wires are pinched between panels or rubbing on sharp metal edges. Repair or replace damaged sections and secure with clips or ties.
- 4. Inspect power module: Access the control/power module and look for burnt components or a strong burnt odor. If present, the module will need replacement.
- 5. Test operation: After replacing any shorted components, reassemble and test on a low-temperature cycle. If E09 or breaker tripping continues, discontinue use and contact a qualified technician for detailed electrical diagnostics.
