Possible Causes

Open wash heating element, Failed NTC temperature sensor, Loose heater wiring, Faulty main control heater relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow internal water to cool before working near the heater.

  • Access heater: On models with an internal wash heater, it is usually mounted in the bottom of the tub. Remove the rear or bottom panel to access.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for burnt or loose connectors at the heater and sensor.
  • Test element and sensor: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the heater and resistance of the NTC sensor. Replace the GE wash heater assembly or GE NTC sensor if defective.
  • Control board: If components test good, the main control heater relay may be faulty and require replacement of the GE main control board.
