Possible Causes

Loose wiring harness at drain pump, Damaged pump connector, Open or shorted drain pump winding, Faulty main control board (in rare cases)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

  • Access the pump: Remove the lower front panel or rear panel (model dependent) to expose the drain pump.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the pump's electrical connector for corrosion, burnt pins, or looseness. Reseat the connector firmly until it clicks.
  • Check harness: Follow the wiring harness from the pump back toward the main control board. Look for pinched, cut, or melted wires and repair with proper crimp connectors and heat-shrink tubing.
  • Test pump resistance: Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the pump terminals. Compare to GE specifications (typically in the 10–40 Ω range; refer to service manual). Replace the GE drain pump assembly if open or shorted.
  • Control board check: If wiring and pump test good but E24 persists, the main control board relay or triac may be defective. Visual inspection for burnt spots can confirm suspicion; replacement of the GE main control board is then required.
