Washer-dryer combo displays E31 and will not start or stops shortly after starting wash.

Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing any panels. Do not bypass safety interlocks for normal use.

• Inspect the door: Check that the door closes fully and latches firmly. Look for a cracked or loose plastic door strike on the door itself.
• Clean latch area: Wipe away detergent residue or lint buildup around the door lock opening that may prevent full engagement.
• Check for play: Gently lift and push the door when closed. Excessive play can indicate hinge wear or misalignment; adjust hinges if possible.
• Access door lock: Remove the front panel or door gasket clamp (depending on model) to reach the GE door lock assembly. Inspect the wiring connector for looseness or corrosion and reseat it.
• Test continuity: With a multimeter, test the door lock switch contacts according to the wiring diagram. If the lock coil is open or the switch does not change state when actuated, replace the door lock assembly.
• Reassemble and test: Refit the gasket and clamps carefully to avoid leaks, then restore power and run a short cycle to confirm the error is cleared.
