Possible Causes

Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose tach wiring harness, Defective motor control board, Damaged motor shaft magnet (if used)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working near the motor or control boards.

  • Access the motor: Remove the rear or bottom panel to expose the drive motor.
  • Inspect tach wiring: Locate the smaller connector or wires leading to the tach sensor on the motor. Ensure the connector is tight and wires are not cut or chafed.
  • Check sensor and magnet: On many GE motors, the tach sensor reads a magnet or slotted wheel on the motor shaft. Verify the magnet/wheel is intact and firmly attached.
  • Test tach sensor: Using a multimeter set to AC volts, spin the motor shaft by hand (with belt removed). You should see a small AC voltage generated by the tach. If not, replace the GE drive motor assembly (tach is usually integrated).
  • Motor control board: If the tach tests good but E43 remains, the motor control board may not be reading the signal correctly. Replace the GE motor control board as needed.
