Possible Causes
Failed GE dryer thermistor, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Broken thermistor wiring harness, Faulty main control board temperature circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal dryer components.
- Locate the thermistor: On GE combo units, the dryer thermistor is typically mounted on the blower housing or exhaust duct inside the unit.
- Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor connector for secure fit and no corrosion. Follow the wires back toward the control board for any damage.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to GE specifications (commonly around 10–50 kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the GE dryer thermistor.
- Check for lint buildup: Heavy lint on the thermistor can cause incorrect readings. Gently clean the sensor and surrounding area.
- Control board: If a known-good thermistor and wiring still produce E52, the main control board may not be interpreting the sensor correctly. Replace the GE main control board if other causes are ruled out.
