Possible Causes

Blocked air vents or lint duct, Failed cooling fan (if equipped), Stuck heater relay on control board, Faulty temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before inspection.

  • Check airflow: Inspect the rear exhaust duct and external vent hood for lint buildup or obstructions. Clean thoroughly to restore airflow.
  • Internal lint cleaning: Remove the rear or front panel to access internal ducts and blower housing. Vacuum lint from all accessible areas, including around the heater and fan.
  • Inspect cooling fan: Some GE combos use an internal cooling fan. Verify the fan spins freely and is not blocked. If the fan does not run during operation (listen for it), replace the GE cooling fan motor.
  • Check temperature sensors: Test the dryer thermistor and any additional temperature sensors for proper resistance. Replace any that are out of specification.
  • Control board relay: If the heater remains on when it should be off, the control board heater relay may be stuck closed. Replace the GE main control board if this is confirmed.
