Possible Causes

Control lock (child lock) enabled, Faulty start/pause button on UI, Failed door lock not signaling closed, Defective main control board input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing the control panel if needed.

  • Check control lock: Look for a control lock icon on the display. Disable it by holding the designated button combination (see user manual).
  • Verify door closure: Ensure the door is fully closed and latched. If the door lock does not click, inspect or replace the GE door lock assembly.
  • Test start button: In service mode, run a key test if available. Non-responsive start button indicates a faulty GE user interface board.
  • Control board: If inputs are good but the unit still will not start, the main control board may not be processing commands and should be replaced.
