Possible Causes
Failed tub heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt heater wiring, Defective main control PCB heater relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing internal components. Heating circuits carry mains voltage.
- Step 1 – Confirm symptom: Run a 60°C wash and check the door glass after 20–30 minutes; if it remains cold and E05 shows, proceed with checks.
- Step 2 – Access heater: Remove the rear panel to locate the tub heating element, usually mounted low on the outer drum with two power terminals and an earth connection.
- Step 3 – Test heater resistance: Disconnect the heater wires. Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 20–30 Ω; an open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Step 4 – Check NTC sensor: The NTC temperature sensor is often integrated into or near the heater bracket. Disconnect its plug and measure resistance; it should change smoothly with temperature (consult Gram service data for exact values). A short or open reading means the sensor is faulty.
- Step 5 – Inspect wiring and PCB: Check for burnt connectors or damaged wires between the heater/NTC and the main control PCB. If heater and NTC are good but E05 persists, the heater relay on the PCB may be defective.
Replacing the main control PCB should be left to a qualified technician due to programming and safety requirements.
