Possible Causes

Overloaded drum, Mixed heavy and light items causing imbalance, Worn shock absorbers, Loose counterweight or mounting bolts

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the machine is violently shaking, press power to stop the cycle and unplug the unit.

  • Reduce load size: Remove some items from the drum, especially very heavy ones like blankets or rugs. Haier combos have smaller drums than separate washers; avoid filling more than about 2/3 full for wash and 1/2 for drying.
  • Sort by weight and fabric: Do not mix very heavy items with very light ones. Wash bulky items separately or in pairs (e.g., two pillows) to balance weight.
  • Check leveling and floor: Confirm the unit is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Tighten leveling feet. Ensure the floor is solid and not flexing.
  • Inspect counterweights and shocks: With power unplugged and top/front panel removed (model dependent), inspect concrete or cast-iron counterweights and their bolts. Tighten any loose bolts. Check shock absorbers for leaks or broken mounts and replace if worn.
  • Call a technician: If E4 recurs with small, balanced loads and mechanical components are secure, the control system may be misreading imbalance and require board or sensor evaluation.
