Possible Causes
Failed wash heater element, Open high-limit thermostat or NTC sensor, Wiring harness damage between heater and PCB, Faulty main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before accessing internal components.
- Confirm symptom: Run a hot wash cycle and check if the door glass and water remain cold after 15–20 minutes. If so, heating is not occurring.
- Access heater terminals: On many Haier combos, the wash heater is mounted in the lower rear of the outer tub and accessed from the rear panel. Remove the rear panel with the unit unplugged.
- Check wiring connections: Inspect the heater terminals and NTC sensor connector for loose or burned wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Test heater resistance: Using a multimeter on ohms, measure across the heater terminals. A typical value is 20–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates an open heater that must be replaced.
- Check NTC sensor: Measure the resistance of the temperature sensor (often mounted in the heater bracket). Compare to Haier service specs; a shorted or open sensor will cause E5.
- When to call a technician: If heater and sensor test good, the main PCB heater relay or triac may be faulty. Board-level diagnosis and replacement should be done by a professional.
