Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Faulty drain pump motor, Foreign object in pump impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine. Water may spill when opening the filter—have towels and a shallow tray ready.
- Access pump filter: Open the lower front service flap. Place a tray under the filter cap.
- Clean filter: Slowly unscrew the pump filter cap to let water drain. Remove the filter and clear lint, coins, buttons, and other debris. Check inside the pump housing for obstructions.
- Check pump impeller: Gently rotate the impeller with your fingers. It should turn freely with slight resistance. If jammed or loose on the shaft, the pump may need replacement.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the drain hose at the rear for kinks, crushing, or blockage. Detach from the standpipe/sink and flush through with water.
- Check standpipe height: Ensure the drain hose is installed at the correct height per Hoover manual (usually 60–100 cm) to prevent siphoning or poor drainage.
- Electrical test: With power off and back panel removed, test the pump motor resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a faulty pump.
- Replace pump if necessary: If the pump is noisy, seized, or electrically open, replace the drain pump assembly and ensure all seals are correctly seated.
