Possible Causes

Failed wash heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt heater wiring, Faulty main control board relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the appliance and ensure the drum is cool before working near the heater.

  • Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel (or front lower panel on some models) to locate the wash heating element at the bottom of the tub.
  • Visual inspection: Check for signs of burning, corrosion, or limescale buildup around the heater terminals and gasket.
  • Test heater resistance: Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the element with a multimeter. Typical values are 20–30 Ω. An open circuit or very low resistance indicates a faulty element.
  • Check NTC sensor: Many Hoover combos have an NTC sensor integrated with or near the heater. Measure its resistance at room temperature (often 20–30 kΩ). If reading is out of spec or does not change with temperature, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the heater and NTC to the PCB for heat damage or loose connectors. Reseat all plugs.
  • Replace components: If the heater is faulty, replace the complete heating element with gasket. If only the NTC is defective and is separate, replace the NTC sensor.
  • Control board check: If heater and NTC test good but E05 persists, the PCB heater relay or triac may be defective. This typically requires professional repair or PCB replacement.
