Possible Causes
Stuck door interlock, Faulty door lock solenoid, Wiring fault to door lock, Control board not sending unlock signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Switch off and unplug the appliance. Do not force the door open with tools as this can damage the cabinet and glass.
- Wait for cool-down: On washer-dryers, the door may remain locked until the temperature is safe. Wait 2–5 minutes after cycle end.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect and attempt to start and cancel a short cycle to trigger unlock.
- Emergency release: Many Hoover models have a manual door release near the pump filter. Open the lower flap and pull the emergency tab or cord to open the door.
- Inspect door lock: Once open and unplugged, remove the door seal clamp and access the door interlock. Check for signs of overheating or mechanical damage.
- Test lock: Use a multimeter to test the lock contacts and solenoid coil. Replace the door interlock if it fails continuity tests or is physically damaged.
- Check wiring and PCB: If the lock is good, inspect wiring to the PCB. A faulty PCB may fail to send the unlock signal and will require professional replacement.
