Possible Causes
Worn carbon brushes (on brushed motors), Faulty motor, Loose motor connector, Motor control fault on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before accessing the motor. Capacitors may retain charge; avoid touching PCB components.
- Check drum by hand: Rotate the drum manually to ensure it is not seized.
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel and belt. Remove the motor mounting bolts and slide the motor out.
- Inspect carbon brushes: On brushed Hoover motors, check brush length. If less than ~1 cm or unevenly worn, replace both brushes with genuine Hoover-compatible parts.
- Clean commutator: Lightly clean the commutator with fine emery paper if heavily carboned, taking care not to damage it.
- Check wiring: Inspect the motor connector and harness for damage. Reseat firmly.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the motor and belt, then run a spin test. If E20 persists and brushes are good, suspect the motor windings or PCB and consider professional service.
