Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer coil, Loose or damaged tachometer wiring, Defective drive motor, Faulty main control board tach input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
- Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with some resistance from the belt. If seized or very stiff, inspect bearings and pulley before proceeding.
- Inspect motor and tacho wiring: Remove the rear panel. Locate the drive motor at the bottom. Check the small wires going to the tachometer (usually at the rear of the motor). Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not broken.
- Test tachometer (for advanced users): With the motor removed and unplugged, measure resistance across the tachometer terminals using a multimeter. Typical values are a few hundred ohms; an open circuit or dead short indicates a bad tach coil.
- Check belt: Ensure the drive belt is intact and correctly tensioned on the motor pulley and drum pulley. Refit or replace if loose or broken.
- Next steps: If wiring and belt are fine and the tach coil tests bad, replace the drive motor assembly. If the motor and tach test OK, the main control board may not be reading the tach signal and will need replacement.
