Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump, Faulty pressure switch not detecting empty tub
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine. Keep towels and a shallow tray ready for water spillage.
- Clean pump filter: Open the lower access flap. Slowly unscrew the pump filter cap and allow water to drain into a tray. Remove debris such as coins, lint, or buttons. Check that the pump impeller spins freely.
- Check drain hose: Inspect the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush through with water.
- Test drain pump operation: With the filter reinstalled, plug in the machine and select a drain or spin cycle. Listen for the pump running. If it hums but does not pump, the impeller may be jammed or the pump worn out. If it is silent, the pump or wiring may be faulty.
- Inspect pressure system: If the tub drains but F05 persists, clean the pressure hose and chamber as described for F04. A stuck pressure switch can falsely report water present.
- Replace pump if needed: If the pump coil is open circuit or the impeller is damaged, replace the drain pump assembly with a compatible Hotpoint unit.
