Possible Causes
Faulty door lock assembly, Control board not sending unlock signal, Water still detected in drum by pressure switch, High drum temperature after drying
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance. Do not force the door open with tools as this can damage the lock and seal.
- Wait for cool-down: After a drying cycle, the door may remain locked until the temperature drops. Wait 5–10 minutes and try again.
- Check for water in drum: If water remains, drain via the pump filter or emergency drain hose. The door will not unlock if the machine thinks it is full of water.
- Manual release: Many Hotpoint models have a manual door release tab near the pump filter. Pull gently to unlock the door.
- Inspect and replace lock: If the lock repeatedly fails to release, replace the door lock assembly and check wiring to the PCB.
