Possible Causes
Shorted motor triac on main PCB, shorted drive motor windings, damaged motor wiring harness, failed Indesit control board (module)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer-dryer and turn off the water supply before any work. Do not work on live circuits.
- Power reset: Disconnect the appliance from mains for at least 10–15 minutes to discharge the control board. Reconnect and test. Sometimes transient faults clear.
- Check drum movement: Open the door and spin the drum by hand. It should rotate smoothly without grinding or binding. If seized, the motor may be overloaded or bearings may be failing.
- Inspect motor wiring: Remove the rear panel. Locate the Indesit drive motor at the bottom of the tub. Check the multi-pin connector for burning, loose pins, or broken wires. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Check for visible shorts: Inspect the main control board (usually at the top or rear) for burnt tracks, scorched components, or a blown triac (often near the motor connector). If any damage is visible, the PCB will usually need replacement.
- Advanced test (for qualified persons only): With the motor removed and disconnected, measure resistance across the motor windings using a multimeter. Compare to Indesit specifications (typically a few ohms per winding). A dead short (near 0 Ω) or open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Resolution: If wiring and motor test good, the fault is typically a shorted triac on the Indesit control module. Replace the control board with the correct part number for your model. If the motor is shorted, replace the complete drive motor assembly.
