Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, blocked drain hose, failed drain pump motor, obstruction in tub-to-pump hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and turn off water supply. Expect water spillage when opening hoses.
- Access and clean pump filter: On many Kenmore combo units, the drain pump is accessed via a lower front access panel or rear panel. Remove screws, pull off panel, and locate the pump clean-out cap. Place a shallow pan and towels under it, then slowly unscrew the cap to drain water. Remove lint, coins, and debris from the filter and pump housing.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks, pinches, or clogs. Detach from the standpipe and blow through it or flush with water to ensure it is clear.
- Check tub-to-pump hose: Squeeze the black rubber hose between tub and pump. If it feels blocked, remove the clamps and inspect for socks or small garments lodged inside.
- Test pump operation: With the unit reassembled, plug in and run a drain/spin cycle. Listen for the pump humming. If the pump is silent or just buzzes and does not move water, the pump motor is likely failed and should be replaced.
Always ensure hoses are re-clamped securely to prevent leaks before restoring power.
