Safety first: Unplug the unit. If water is inside, drain manually before forcing the door open.

• Manual door release: Many Kenmore combos have a manual release tab near the door lock, accessible by removing the lower front panel or pulling back the door boot. Pull the tab to open the door.
• Inspect lock: Once open, inspect the door lock assembly for broken parts or signs of overheating.
• Test lock operation: With the front panel removed, reconnect power and start a cycle (keep clear of moving parts). Observe whether the lock engages and disengages. If it fails to unlock, replace the door lock assembly.
• Check wiring and control: If a new lock does not resolve the issue, the main control board may not be sending the unlock signal and may require replacement.
